Simon is a Sophomore at the University of Chicago studying Computer Science and Astrophysics. At MiiE, Simon has “hand-scanned” hundreds of books and created scores of scrapers/bots to collect millions of data points, whether it be metadata about books or to expand the project’s various corpora. Simon also manages the project website and helps to develop new data analysis pipelines. Simon is the son of two immigrants, one from Chile and the other from Japan, and was born and raised in Anchorage, AK. Simon recalls the literature he consumed in his early childhood strongly shaping his perception of the world and of himself. The impact reading has had on Simon is why he is so passionate about the research about MiiE. Outside of work and school, Simon enjoys hiking, biking and music.
